Top tier compliment, thank you! I read this as I squeezed the remnants of my Laneige out of the tube

I have ‘Cantoras’ on my shelf! I also don’t hear it spoken about much - I can’t wait to read it sometime soon! Women!!!! Are the best!!!!

I’m also dying to watch Poor Things. It’s not out in the UK until late next week and I’m hoping I’ll be able to go see it as soon as it’s out. What were your initial quibbles with it? I’m really not sure what to expect but open minded to whatever it serves. If it wasn’t Emma Stone, I’m not sure I would be this interested in going? Just bc she’s so unbelievably good. We shall see.

Aftersun made me cry my eyes out. Past Lives & Worst Person in the World have also been on my list for forever.

I can’t wait to see what you think of Cantoras!!!

Re: Poor Things, I felt annoyed that I could tell it was directed by a man 🤣 for a movie about a woman’s liberation, it’s kind of what a man’s idea of women’s liberation is, if that makes sense? But it’s complex and nuanced and the more I sit with it the more I really enjoy the movie. Plus, I’m willing to overlook anything for Emma Stone!!!

Urgh directed by a man Ofc. Okay noted that’s a very valid quibble. When I watch it I’ll come back and let you know what I thought!!! Emma stone is so talented I agree. And will prepare to watch Past Lives with an entire toilet roll next to me x

Steph, what a solid list of favorite reads despite having a self-proclaimed off year! Also, I've really enjoyed hearing a little about your movie journey. We share alot of the favorite ones (I can't stop thinking about Past Lives or Worst Person in the World, I need to see Aftersun!). I also saw Poor Things last week and was baffled when I left the movie theater about how I felt about it but also deeply appreciated how funny and strange it was at moments...? (haha I'm clearly still unsure what I think!)

Thank you! I love seeing your movie updates on letterboxd too and seeing which ones we have in common. I’m still processing Poor Things as well but honestly, any movie that makes me think that much for that long is impactful enough that I think it’s more important than even my most favorites!
